The plants are cultivated in a specific profile, 80 centimetres above the ground, where a nutrient solution composed of pure water and nutrients dissolved in a balanced way is circulating, in accordance with each plant species´ specific needs. These profiles provide the support of the plants, without the need of mixing sand with the organic material. The nutrient solution is strictly controlled to keep its characteristics. From time to time a monitoring of pH and nutrient concentration takes place, in order that the plants grow under the best possible conditions. The nutrient solution is kept in tanks and is pumped through the profiles as needed, and is going back to the same tank. This is the cropping system NFT (Nutrient Film Technique).
